The structure of an arenemanganese tricarbonyl cation; synthesis and X-ray analysis of dodecahydrotriphenylene(tricarbonyl)manganese(I) tetrafluoroborate

The synthesis, spectroscopic properties, and X-ray structure of dodecahydrotriphenylene(tricarbonyl)manganese(I) tetrafluoroborate, [(η⁶-C₁₈H₂₄)Mn(CO)₃][BF₄] are reported. The cation has approximate C₃ symmetry with the MnCO vectors projected across the unbridged CC bonds of the arene ligand.     

Synthesis of the 7-cis isomer of the natural leukotriene d4

Methyl 5(S), 6(S)-oxido-11-oxo-7-cis-9-trans-undecadienoate $\text{5}$ was prepared and used for the synthesis of the novel 7-cis-LTD₄ ($\text{9}$) as well as, after isomerization to the all-trans dienal ester $\text{3}$, for that of the natural leukotrienes.     

W(CO)6-catalyzed oxidative carbonylation of primary amines to N,N'-disubstituted ureas in single or biphasic solvent systems. Optimization and functional group compatibility studies

Primary amines undergo carbonylation to N,N'-disubstituted ureas using W(CO)6 as the catalyst, I2 as the oxidant, and CO as the carbonyl source. Preparation of various N,N'-disubstituted ureas from aliphatic primary amines, RNH2 (R = n-Pr, n-Bu, i-Pr, sec-Bu, or t-Bu), was achieved in good to excellent yields. Studies of functional group compatibility using a series of substituted benzylamines demonstrated broad tolerance of functionality during the carbonylation reaction. Preparation of various N,N'-disubstituted ureas from substituted benzylamines, R-C6H4CH2NH2 (R = H, p-OCH3, p-CO2H, p-CO2Et, p-CH2OH, p-SCH3, p-vinyl, p-Cl, p-Br, m-I, p-NH2, p-NO2, or p-CN), was achieved in good yields. For many substituted benzylamines, yields of ureas were higher when a two-phase CH2Cl2/H2O solvent system was used.     

Synthesis of spiroacetals using functionalised titanium carbenoids

Alkylidenation of lactones with functionalised titanium carbenoid reagents (Schrock carbenes) followed by acid-induced cyclisation of the resulting enol ethers constitutes a new method for the preparation of [4.4], [4.5] and [5.5] spiroacetals (1,6-dioxaspiro[4.4]nonanes, 1,6-dioxaspiro[4.5]decanes and 1,7-dioxaspiro[5.5]undecanes, respectively, sometimes termed 5,5-, 5,6- and 6,6-spiroketals). The titanium carbenoids are easily generated from readily available thioacetals.
